Skuld hos Kronofogden har vuxit – vad kan vi göra?

My wife and I have recently moved to sweden from America where we have been living for the past 8 years. I'm American and she is swedish. We recently received a skuld att betala leter from kronofogden for a total of 35673 sek. She doesn't remember even what it was for because it was executed in 2016. The original loan was only 7014 sek and has gone all the way up to 35673. Since we just moved here and have two young kids and no jobs, we need every cent we can. The debt is almost 10 years old which is the statue of limitations probably about 8 months left. What can I do? Do we have to pay this or can we wait it out for the next 8 to 11 months before they can't collect on it.

Update: we found out it was a loan her ex took out in her name when she was in a bad relationship. We have no way of proving it was him so we can't take him to court.

After they send you anything "the statue of limitations" reset so you will have to pay it
